"Ive been very hesitant about blogging about them for fear of being attacked by a developer for libel."

    Matt,

The primary defenses to a defamation claim are that the statements are true, or are not statements of fact. IOW, opinion.

So, you can report facts, or express opinions with no "provably false factual connotation." Sure, some dirt bag with too much time on their hands might sue you, but that's the beauty of living in America.

The material in this post is NOT legal advice. Readers of this post should contact an attorney in their jurisdiction for legal advice applicable to their particular situation.

The other issue is that most reports are from people working for the developer who tell me about things but ask me not to publish what they tell me, even anonymously.

I know I have heard a lot about this project from incredibly reliable sources. I think the frustration for the public now lies the fact this has been a project "in the works" for several years now. Someone needs to just get it done. Unfortunately, and in my opinion, there is/was no clear vision with this project from the beginning. Dealing with a developer's vision, a Hotelier's vision, the designer's vision, the contingencies for financing, etc, it was bound to happen. I've been told information about several recent changes being made to the building that have not yet been announced to the public from facade, to materials used, to timeframe for completion of construction, to financing contingencies, etc. Dang, I think we should all talk about it!

Jo, no, I cannot tell. And, why would I tell you? I do not know you anymore than you know me. Additionally, it would potentially prohibit me gaining any knowledge of these projects in the future. What I can do, however, is discuss with you the changes coming down the pike for this development. You'll know in due time if the information I am receiving is correct or not. Fair?

Jo, you should seriously consider getting that blood pressure of yours in check. You seem like an angry person by the tone in most of your postings. Not gettin' any at home?

    Matt,

I understand your concern with libel. I was a professional newspaper reporter for years and am now in PR in a government agency, where I work very closely with attorneys. I'm always careful to only cite facts, sources and preferably publicly available documents.

And frankly, with that post regarding Cooper Square, my primary concern was to not damage the seller. I've read enough bad stuff about Wysong that if anyone argues with my opinion, I can toss them a bunch of documents.

Oh, my point ... I would very much like to see more information about problems with conversions, as well as new contruction so I can be an informed buyer.

Most of the units you mention on your blog are out of price range, which is why I plan to buy "used." My preference, of course, would be for a condo that was never an apartment. But in any case, it would be nice to find a blog or Web site that focuses on older units.
